Local Artist Jeff Best of Devil’s Rope Studio now has five permanent barbed-wire sculptures in four states.
Currently Devils Rope Studio has five permanent sculptures in four different states. An Elk in Peoria, Illinois; A Horse in Saint Joseph, Missouri; a Horse in Evergreen, Colorado; A Draft Horse Northglenn, Colorado & Wolves in Little Rock, Arkansas… with two more pending in Missouri and Colorado.
The second sculpture in Colorado will be “Salvere” (Amigo), a draft horse, that recently won the People’s Choice Award in Northglenn, Colorado. The results of this win means the Northglenn Arts Council will be purchasing Salvere as a permanent sculpture for the city. “A great honor to say the least,” according to a Facebook post.
Jeff Best has been sculpting with wire since he was a youngster. He said in part in an Artist’s Statement, “I love the story of old… This is why barbed-wire intrigues me… My barbed-wire sculptures are determined to be esthetically pleasing to the eye… but the true intrinsic value has more to do with the heart. Like a malleable piece of wire I would like to believe we all have potential for a renewed purpose.”
