Sydney Festival has officially begun with events from Mosman to Campbelltown taking place to celebrate the opening day.
But nestled in Hyde Park is the Magic Mirrors Spiegeltent, a wood and glass pop-up structure that plays host to a show that comes with the following warning: ‘This show contains drug references, full frontal nudity, attempted pyrokinesis and adult concepts.’
It is Life – The Show and it comes from Strut & Fret Production House, the same company behind Limbo and Cantina from previous Sydney Festivals and Blanc de Blanc at the Sydney Opera House. If you have crossed the threshold of any of those shows, you will know that warning is not only expected, but necessary.
Loosely hanging off the concept that life shouldn’t be taken too seriously, the theory is the show should be a joyful celebration of what it means to be human.
