“Karl and Ally will be hosting the Today show from tomorrow morning at 7am,” a Nine spokesman said in a statement. “They will lead the continuation of Nine’s extensive coverage of the catastrophic bushfires around the country.”
Saturday will mark Stefanovic’s return to the Today program for the first time since he was removed from the role in 2018. The program’s ratings have since taken a battering and, after much speculation, the broadcaster confirmed last year that Stefanovic would return with a new co-host Allison Langdon.
Seven’s breakfast offering, Sunrise, rated much higher than Today in 2019. Nine executives hope Stefanovic’s return will help close the ratings gap.
Entertainment presenter Brooke Boney is set to be the only original Today show host to return this year. She will be joined by newcomers Tracy Vo as newsreader, sports presenter Alex Cullen and weather presenter Tim Davies. Former entertainment presenter Richard Wilkins and Ninja Warrior‘s Rebecca Maddern are the new faces of Weekend Today.
Sunrise executive producer Michael Pell said Samantha Armytage and David Koch will co-host Seven’s flagship breakfast show on Monday as planned. Weekend Sunrise will, however, start at the earlier time of 6am to cover the bushfire crisis.
