If you’re familiar with Haim’s first two albums but haven’t yet heard Now I’m in It, this might sound like a departure from their fantastic pop-rock energy.

I think it’s an evolution. They’ve nailed that special thing LCD Soundsystem is famous for: the marriage of sharp and dark lyricism with ultimate dance-ability. Think of Green Light by Lorde, the anthemic and rough and hopeful stew that always fills a dance floor.

For anyone listening to Haim since their triumphant 2013 debut, Days Are Gone, these new tracks will feel like a graduation, complete with celebration and fear. It’s the depth of both despair and relief that can only come on the heels of life lessons, so kick them up.
