Power died on Monday afternoon and her family said her cause of death was under investigation.
“Sammy Power was a colourful, funny, and gregarious person whose greatest quality was her unbridled generosity and kind heart,” the family said in a statement on Tuesday morning.
“Sammy saw the good in everyone and brought colour, vibrancy and a sharp wit to every conversation and every situation.
“She was creative and absolutely unique, something that is truly rare.
“She is survived by her Mother Jan, Father John, Sister Astrid and Nieces Emily, Olivia and India, all of whom are shocked and overwhelmed by her loss.
“They respectfully ask that all speculation and comment cease and that the family is allowed to grieve privately at this time.”
Tributes flooded social media on Monday night and continued on Tuesday.
Network Ten Entertainment Editor Angela Bishop: “RIP Sammy Power. We have lost a radio powerhouse with a cracking sense of humour and the most infectious laugh.”
Janelle Kane: “I’m guttered [sic]. Her beautiful and wicked sense of humour dragged me out of some really bad days. I loved her when her and Dean did TripleM Breakky [sic] in the 1990s and even recently her videos with Mike Goldman were hilarious. I will deeply miss you.”
Susan Emily Frances: “This is such a shock and so sad. I remember listening to her on the radio show Sammy & Jason in Sydney. God, they made me laugh. I remember meeting them both on an evening Sydney harbour cruise, they hosted a meal on it. Such lovely people. Oh Sammy, I am so sorry you’ve gone from this life. It just doesn’t seem right. Rest in peace sweetie.”
