I was watching the news the other day when I saw a brief video clip from some sort of political rally … to be honest, I don’t know if it was a Democratic or Republican event, and I don’t even want to get into politics, I just want to comment on how I noticed this metal sculpture of Donald Trump positioned on a milk crate (below left), and how it intrigued me from an artistic standpoint … as in, what is this? Scroll down for more …
I’ve been trying to find some sort of art history comparison, to try to understand what was inspiring the artist who made this thing or what kind of vibe the artist is trying to present. Is it supposed to be positive representation, or a negative one? Is the metal and sharp lines supposed to represent power? Is it supposed to be like the Iron Giant? Or Dr. Doom? Or maybe like a Naum Gabo Constructivist Sculpture? I’m really kind of stumped by this thing.
I did find this Japanese Half Mask (Ho-ate) with Neck Guard (above at top right) at the Met that has some similarities, as well as this German Field Armor from the 1500s (above right at bottom right).
If anyone knows who the artist is or can tell us more about this Trump sculpture, please share your info in the comments section below.
