ABC Radio Melbourne’s mornings program has held steady despite recording a dip in audience share following Jon Faine’s farewell.
The audience share for the public broadcaster’s mornings program has dipped 1.7 percentage points, according to the final ratings survey for 2019. This survey period was Virginia Trioli’s first standalone survey, with the previous period overlapping with Faine’s final days on-air.
Despite the drop, Trioli’s audience share of 11.5 percentage points is higher than most of Faine’s surveys this year. When the results are adjusted to reflect the exact timeslot for the ABC’s mornings program, Trioli received a slightly higher audience share of 11.6. Virginia’s actual audience share of 11.6 is ahead of Faine’s average of 10.8 over the six survey periods this year when he was on-air alone.
The mornings program also remained in third place overall, behind Gold FM’s morning programming and 3AW’s Neil Mitchell. An ABC spokesman declined to comment on the results. However, sources at the public broadcaster said the numbers were promising given there is usually a significant drop in audience share following a changing of the guard.
